1989 F250 fuel problem

I havew an 89 f250 i bought to plow with, it ran fine for about a month, it has a 5.8 and auto trans, 4x4, dual gas tanks, the problem is, it is stalling out on me, especially when warmed up, i have replaced....... fuel filter, high pressure pump, air filter, cap rotor, plugs, wires and coil.
this used to happen only on the front tank, but is now happening on both.
it runs great when first started, but after a little while, it begins to sputter the only way to keep it from stalling, is to pump the pedal, and this doesnt always work, if you are lucky after about a minute it will start running ok again, after this happens, if you give it too much gas, it will backfire and start stalling again.if you let the truck sit for a few minutes it will run fine again, for a little while, then it will happen all over again.
all this is sporatic, it doesnt always happen, but it is happening more often lately, and its getting to be quite a pain, when im stalled out in a driveway with my plow down, and driving down the street, blocking traffic.
I had the truck in the shop about 2 months ago when i bought it, and had to replace both axle joints, both rear axle seals, and rear brakes, then replaced both front hubs, it cost me over $1000, i only paid $2000 for the truck, and cant afford to keep dumping $$$$$ into this, and not have it right, so Im hoping someone here can help me with a few answers.thanks in advance, Brian

RE: 1989 F250 fuel problem

hi, have you replaced the low pressure pumps in the fuel tanks or the switchover valve -the early switchover valves had a filter in them -ford came out with a program to replace the switchover valve with a redesigned one without a filter in it-alot of people dont know that thier is a filter in thier and it gets stopped up big time-good luck to you.

I have not replaced any of them, I thought it was odd that both low pressure pumps would go at the same time, and didnt know about the filter in the switch, I will check that out, thank you

RE: 1989 F250 fuel problem

it is uncommon for both low pressure pumps to go out at once but with enough fuel restriction it can happen -most of the time when i see this scenario 1 pump is weak and then the other goes out later but the owner never noticed because they only ran on one take for many miles before finally switching tanks so it is hard to notice ,mark.
