I don't know about the fuel requirements where you live but in Denver they have the ethanol in it. I get the same mpg when I use city fuel. I drive about 20 miles out of town to the rural areas where this is not mixed in with the "real" fuel. I get about 16-17 mpg. I also make sure I pack the fuel in and that takes a little longer to do. It makes a difference of about 100 miles +/- per tank full. It's not much but worth the 20 miles out of the way. Also change your fuel filter regularly and I put a can of BG 44K in the tank every summer. Hope this helps.

I had a 94 F350 7.3L diesel that had 4:11. I got around 12mpg city or hi-way. The thing was a monster and did what it was setup to do. I found the best answer for better fuel mileage was to change the gearing in the diff. I went with a 3:73 and my mileage went to about 15/16 city and 21/22 hiway. Wished I still had the old truck but it gave up on me at 480,000mi
