4X4 Front end issues
I am looking at a 2004 F250 to purchase. This was not used as a snow plow truck.
Carfax reports this vehicle had a front rotor replaced at 1200 miles. A second rotor and stabilizer bar links at 25000. Stabilizer links again, front wheel bearing/hub, and a front axle at 31000. Stabilizer links 3d time at 35000 A second front wheel bearing/hub and a second front axle at 40000. Ball joint, a 3d front axle and a 3d front wheel bearing/hub at 54000. All work by Ford dealer. Present mileage 56000. Are these issues typical? Any suggestions as what may be the root cause of these front end issues? Hard to think the dealer was working Ford warranty for shop work Ford would surely note the repeat replacement of same item. I otherwise like the truck, but do not want to purchase problems. Thank you for all replies. tom |
Sounds like the vehicle was being tested for being Ford tough.
Many times when the front hubs and 4WD are always engaged these problems surface. |
yes hanky i agree with you many of out rentals come back with problems as above plus being used in water a killer on front end parts..

Do you think you could tell us if all the hub and bearing and axle work was all done on the same side?

Sorry late getting back to you been working. no particular side as most of these pickups are used on construction sites and used "well you know" even u joints are an issue

Let's look at this from a different perspective.
If you purchase one you like, you will no doubt have to replace many parts that are not apparent in need of replacement right away, but they will surely need to be replaced up the road. Depending on what you do with the truck , once replaced they may not give much trouble after that. From my own personal experience there is no end to correcting problems from abuse. It just goes on and on. If the truck was run into the ground you could be buying a bag of problems. Yet in spite of this we buy them. This is a decision you will need to make based on what else you see on the vehicle. |
