Ok So a friend of mine bought a 79 f250 4x4, he bought it for the differentials, axles for another project of his. (highly sought after differentials/ axles for off road builds)He said once those were out i could have the rest. My question is what else would fit in its place without breaking the bank. Im not looking for super heavy duty just something that will work without a bunch off modifications or problems. say maybe diff assemblys from F150? i know smaller i just dont see peiceing out this truck when i could fit different diff/axle and drive daily or around or whatever. Throw me some ideas and thanks in advance

 

The standard front differential was a High pinion Dana 44, the rear was a Dana 60, IIRC. The Dana 60 front was an option on heavy duty trucks.

The Dana 44 was also used in the front of F-150's, but was set up for coil springs, so that would probably be a pain to change. A rear Dana 60 or Sterling 10.25 should be easy and cheap enough to find. The 60 would be easier, since the present drive shaft would work.

They are tough trucks, but gas mileage is pretty low.

Orange Tractor is right just put a Dana 60 back in the rear and a Dana 44 back in the front.It must of had a Dana 60 in the front like he said.unless your a serious mudder the Dana 44 will work just fine.that what was put in most ford f250's.
