Ball Joint Removel Tips

1999 F 350, 7.3, 6 speed manual 2 WD
This weekend was ball joint removal time.
Rented the removal tool from the local auto parts. The tool looks like a giant "C" clamp.
Used plenty of penetrating oil and applied the tool per the instructions.

Tips.
After tightening the removal tool use a stout hammer (3-5 pounds) and hit the hex end of the threaded rod to drive the rod in a way to push the stuck joint out. Essentially with the tool VERY tight you are exerting a "spring loaded" pressure. A sharp rap adds an added force and it pushed the joint out.

Polish off the top end of the bore where the new joint goes in to remove rust and other crud.

Grease the bore prior to inserting the new joint.
Have fun!
Regards,
Eric
