Bed ballast for plowing.

Just picked up a v-dxt 8’2” boss plow. Be on a f-250 crew cab 8’ bed. Curious for ideas of what you guys put in the bed for weight, how much weight that’s most beneficial. Got some ideas, numerous sand bags placed in a framed out 2x6 frame in the bed “to help keep usage bed space, sand placed into storage totes. Imagination goes on. Just curious what other people have done and what they like.

I have a 99 F 350. Build a metal box that holds about 50-60 bricks. It fits nicely between the tailgate and the rear edge of the wheel wells. I did also drill two hols inside the box that align with the long body attaching bolts located near the rear edge of the bed. The box is just about 3-1/2 tall (like a 4x4 laid on edge) so if you want to place any long objects in the bed just toss a couple of 4x4s in the "bridge" the gap/space.
The box is made from some old square tubing and C channel I had in the shop. Bottom is a 1/8 plate welded in place the top is plywood and attached with some machine screws. It weighs 460 pounds and I leave it in all year since the butt end of the truck is SO light compared to the 7.3 V-8 diesel up front.
Regards!

Eric

I used to use cinder blocks or anything heavy back there. Something that made a lot of sense was to use bag of sand, and a shovel which were very useful to help get out of a slippery spot.
