EGR Problems 2005 F250 6.0 turbo diesel
I bought the truck new and around 60k miles or so the engine started having EGR problems. Really only noticed it when the tow/haul is on. I tow quite a bit. First time it was at the shop they replaced the valve. few months later the truck died. It went back to the dealer because it was still under the 5yr 100k warranty and they replaced the egr cooler, oil cooler, and decarboned the turbo, etc and replaced the heater coil (heat wasn't working good either). They found the EGR stuck open the second time and I have noticed the engine reving up a couple of times since and think it's the same problem or something else that is causing all the other problems. I also experience a rapid loss in anti-freeze. Truck is out of warranty now and I was looking to see if anyone might know what actually is causing the coolant loss, egr valve to stick open, the turbo to get carboned up etc. Doesn't seem the dealership can find out exactly what the problem is. Looks like they are just fixing the things that go out and not fiding the root of the problem. Any suggestions on the cause or what it will cost me out of pocket if it happens again? Anyone else experienced these types of problems?
