Exhaust Brake
 

I was looking around online and I found a site for a exhaust brake. It is called hyper diesel. Has anyone heard of this? How does it work? It says you do not need to change your exhaust or add anything to your exhaust. It does not make sense to me.

These kits utilize/use your trucks OEM EBPV..Exhaust back pressure valve as basically an exhaust gate.. Normally it's PCM controlled on start up for cold temp coolant warming/cab heat.. If the the valve is closed at speed/RPM is has a 'brake' affect restricting exhaust outlet flow.. The kits are nice as their sort of plug and play.. You can build on pretty cheap that has the same function, or close to.. Here's a link to a site/build that'll save me some typing ;) and give you an explaination as to function, build steps/info. as well as schematics if you'd like to build your own and save a buck or two.. Shows both manual and automatic build..

Exhaust Brake
 

Contemplating adding an exhaust brake ("Jake Brake") to my 1999 F350, DRW, 7.3L diesel, manual transmission that I use primarily to tow my travel trailer. A quick online search displays several units available for my truck, with prices (parts only) $395 to $1600.

Anybody already done this?

Any suggestions, comments, critique, product reviews, etc. welcome.

How does an actual exhaust brake device compare to wiring the EBPV to a switch to be used as an exhaust brake?
