F250 4 wheel drive

My automatic 4 wheel drive on my F250 doesn't work when I turn it on in the cab. What could be the problem?

What year is your truck?

Chances are that the transfer case shift motor isn't working; either it has gone bad, or there is a bad connection. The bad news is they are kind of spendy; the good news is that there are a lot of trucks in salvage yards that have one that will work. The shift motor is the same on the Rangers and Explorers. We even used one off my burnt explorer on my buddy's Expedition.

If it is a late 80's to mid 90's truck, the Borg Warner 1356 transfer case has a provision for manual shifting. It is on the rear of the transfercase, and I think it takes a 1/2" drive to turn it.

same problem

Im having kind of the same problem, i have an 2007 f250 super duty and when i turn on my 4x4 it kicks in for a short amount of time then turns off, so i then will manually lock my wheels but still have the same problem. Any ideas? im thinking it might be the vaccum seals but not to sure.
