Default wiring issue

i have recently bought a 92 f250 with the 460ci it needed a little front end work and to have an oil leek fixed after the oil leek was fixed all we had to do was put the hood back on and while doing so we started the truck on fire now u may be wondering how we did that and the answer is that the hood spring connected something at the starter cylinoid (we think) and the wires off the battery started on fire now we have some other wires put in to replace the ones that were burned but now the truck wont start with the key (we fixed that with a switch) and there is no power to the truck unless it is running so i was wondering if anyone may be able to help with identifying the problem.

Originally there would have been a rubber thimble/cap that was on the solenoid lug. Was pretty easy for the hood hinge to swing down and short the solenoid.. Did you check the 'fuse links' that come off of the solenoid? They can burn and sometimes the insulation wont burn through. You can check them by giving the wire a tug to see if their toast.
