Lifters - premature failing
I've a 2017 F-250 Lariat King Cab with 6.2 Gas engine. Approximately 76,000 miles on it. Started hearing lifter clicking about 2 weeks ago. I do regular (or even sooner specified oil changes/filter, use Mobil 1, just did change about 2 months ago including flush/change Transmission oil. Any suggestions/insights why/what to do with what seems a premature failing on lifters?
I would want to know the ACTUAL measured oil pressure before I changed lifters again.
so you don't see any problem with having a lifter problem already at only 76000 miles when better than recommended oil change maintenance has been followed?
Are you interested in what caused the lifter problem (if in fact that is what it is)?
Yes (that is why I wrote.) It is lifters, confirmed by local mechanic listening. Has anybody else seen this low problem at such low mileage? Does anybody besides me feel that 76,000 miles is premature for this problem to manifest?
I think @raski was suggesting to you that it might have been from an oil pressure problem and that that should be checked.

Thank you for the clarification, and suggestion.

Can we ask, the clicking sound you are hearing, was it just one lifter or more than one?
If only one or two could be some foreign matter got in there or loose and clogged the lifter(s). As suggested earlier ,replacing parts without determining the cause for failure is doing only half of the job and could produce a repeat performance. You can change the oil and filter all you want, but if dirt is managing to get into the lube system, the lifters won't be the only parts to suffer. Also, what grade of Mobil 1 are you having installed or installed by you? What does your owner's manual recommend? (Sometimes too much of a good thing ?) |
I would question how certain you are that the "clicking sound" actually is a lifter?
You can imagine how difficult it is to pass up on this saga.
We are going by what a mechanic suggested, and from experience, we learn to "Look for ourselves" which is pretty difficult to do over the net. This is one of those times where there is one question after another. Not sure about the info presented so far, and if we ask enough questions we may come up with an answer or possible solution. |
