Long bed Vs Short bed ~ Why

I'd like to hear from everyone on why they chose either a long or short bed truck. I'm looking for a new truck and would like to know what you think. Is there any advantage to a long bed for towing, ride and handling? How about advantages of a short bed. Many thanks for your opinions

bed length

Living in a big city, the short bed is easier to park, get around in traffic etc.
If I lived in a small town or was only going to be driving the roads, I'd get a long bed.

Firesheriff, thanks for the reply. I've been thinking that the long bed is where I'm going. The longer wheelbase stability makes sense and I'm buying the diesel powered beast strickly for towing my TT/toyhauler and 6500# boat. It just seems like most folks have the short bed even for pulling big trailers. Maybe thats because most use them as a daily driving rigs around town. Thanks again.

Hi , I have a new ['11] F250 with the short bed [it's a Supercrew model with the 6.2L engine. I haul a 29" trailer and from time to time a 17' boat -but most of the time I use it as a daily driver and use it for hunting in NW Ontario. I have owned 4 trucks ,the first 2 of which were long bed conventional cabs and both 4x2. The last 2 were[ are] 4x4 extcab type models with 6.5 beds. I much prefer these- easier to manouever in tighter areas like bush roads and for 4x4 applications . I see no advantage to a long box and anytime i need to haul gyprock or other panel material [4x8's] or 2x4's etc I just put a flag on the end of the load. my thoughts anyway- everyone has a different take on these things and it's really a personal choice. I just think that a Supercrew or full 4 door model with the 8 foot box looks way too big to move around.

Hi there Hiwallhunter, wow, glad I asked this question for all who are looking for a truck. It's going to be good for everyone, even though it comes down to a personal choice. Funny, I almost bought a long bed until I found an awesome short bed 2 days ago. After having driven both, I'm going with the short bed, mostly because it is such a clean truck inside and out. Thanks everyone for your opinions, if anyone else has one, add to this for future readers.
