My 89 F250 starving

Good evening. I have a 1989 F250 300cid. It idles a little rough but my main problem is it seems to be starved for gas at cruising speeds. Between 2200 and 3000 rpm. I changed the fuel filter but didn't know how to proceed from here. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Maybe a place to start? Thank you in advance for any help you could offer.

Have you had the cats? Checked in awhile.

No cats. I just got the truck 4 days ago. So haven't really been to into it yet. But it is straight out the manifold to a set of cherry bombs and what looks like old chrome tips. Im starting to wonder what my throttle body gasket looks like. The engine light is on but not the check engine light. Im going to have some time to fiddle with it this weekend. Let me know if you have any suggestions on things to try or check.

Something to consider,
Until you know for sure if the fuel pump is delivering the fuel at the required pressure and volume you could spend a lot of $$$ and still not get to the root of the problem ,,,,,,,,,,,,so,, you can probably rent a fuel pressure gauge and check that out first. You should have 50 to 60 psi with the key on and engine off (KOEO). Does your vehicle have one or two fuel tanks?

Those little 4.9 engines were pretty tough as long as they were maintained well.

FYI---------I believe there is no "Check Engine" light on your vehicle only the ENGINE light and that gave the same warning as a check eng lamp.

You might want to check and confirm that the EGR valve is not completely closed, because if it is it can affect performance.Sometimes they get carboned up and can't completely close.

Thank you for the advice. I will check the pressure before I get to far into it.
