Steering Box

I have a 1999 F-250 super duty, 7.3, I'm wondering how tough of a job the steering box is to change out. I would probably need some special tools etc, is it do-able or should I take it to the stealer? I prefer to do as much work on my own as possible, even if I have to buy the tools...

Thanks

If you don't mind my asking, why are you changing the whole box assy?

I'm am unaware of any other options, can I replace the worn out parts within the steering box itself? I figured I would have to find a used one or buy a new one. It still steers ok, but theres play in the steering and I have tightned it up as much as I feel comfortable.

The hardest part is getting the box out.
I suppose you could consider a few options like; remove the box yourself , open it up and see what is worn and replace the worn parts , reassemble , adjust and reinstall the assy , they are not that difficult to rebuild.
If you don't feel comfortable doing the repairs yourself, maybe you could have a dealership rebuild it, then reinstall it.
Another option is to get a hold of a rebuilt box and just swap it.
Buying a new on is gonna be expensive.
Installing a used steering box could be installing a box with limited life and possibly not much better than your present box. You need to check it thoroughly.
Of course the last option is to have someone else do the job.
If you decide to do it yourself, get hold of a good manual so you adjust the parts correctly.
