Unknown Knob, Locking Hubs, and an Ipod question from a newbie

I have three quick questions for anyone who would be kind enough to answer. I just bought a 2003 F-250 FX4 6.0. This is my first diesel so it may sound stupid.

1) Underneath the dash above the pedals but below the fuse panel, is a black knob with a line on it. It appears to be plugged into the fuse box but I have no idea what it is. Any ideas?

2) My truck has locking hubs on it that says auto and lock. Whats the point of having both options? Whats the difference between Auto and Lock other than the obvious?

3)Finally we have spent all day buying and trying different Ipod connections for this truck but no success. What I want is a direct WIRED connection to the radio that also charges the Ipod. The problem is every wired connection I have found requires the radio to have the CD Changer Option. While the back has the plugs the front does not have any ability to control a CD Changer. Even if I did find the radio that had the CD changer controls, I would loose the CD portion of my radio or does the indash allow you to put one CD in while the changer is somewhere else?

Thanks in advance.

RE: Unknown Knob, Locking Hubs, and an Ipod question from a newbie

Question 1...Not sure..gotta digital camera? Aftermarket possibly...

Question2.. With 4x4 hubs that have 'Lock/Auto' your truck would/should have ESOF (electronic shift on the fly) with the 4x4 selections knob on the dash.. With ESOF the hubs are auto locking with high/low vaccum when commanded.. If the hubs weren't able to lock in auto, they can be manually locked instead..

Question 3.. Does you audio unit have an AUX button on the panel? I used Percision Interface Products http://www.pie.net/for the MP3 interface adapter to wire in my GPS/MP3 in to the vehicle audio.. They have IPOD adapters as well, depending on what your trying to do.. Might have a look..
