Speedometer stops, all warning lights on

My college aged daughter has a 2006 Ford Five Hundred with about 245,000 miles on it. It's been a great car (we bought it with 165,000 miles). On her way back to campus this evening, her speedometer stopped working and all the warning lights came on, even though there was no apparent change in the car's operation. The coolant, fuel, rpm gauges continued to function and were all back lit properly.
After she arrived at school she shut off the car and restarted and it seems to be working again for the moment. She won't drive it to test it until daylight hours tomorrow.
What could be the issue? I would think that if it was a ground issue that none of the gauges would work. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Same problems

My mom has a 2005 Ford Five Hundred 40k miles And the back up lights were on when in park or driving. And the dash lights did not come on. They replaced the battery and alternator. And a week later the car won’t start now. It has been connected to the computer 3 times and shows no codes.
