02 Focus Ignition Locked

My 02 Focus, the ignition key is LOCKED, will not turn, steering wheel is locked as well.
Need help in how to fix this issue.
Thanks

It is pretty common for there to be pressure on the steering linkage and preventing the ign lock cyl from turning. If that is the case, all you need to do is rock the steering wheel in both directions against the stops a little forcefully while trying to turn the ign out of the lock position. Let us know if that was all that was wrong.

02 Focus Ignition locked

Nothing. Tried turning steering wheel RT to LF & visa versa, still would not let the key turn at all. There was only about 1/4" of play in the wheel from trying to turn it RT to LF & back before it hit it's hard stop. Ignoton key would not turn at all.
Am at a loss here.

Unless someone can provide a better suggestion, it may be time to consult with a locksmith or dealership service dept.

Wondering if the key could be worn. Only have the one, the other was lost about a year ago so the key that I do have has probably sean a lot more use the if I had the two.

You might check around. It is possible a locksmith would be a little less expensive and they can usually make and code the keys if necessary.

I had this exact same problem occur with my Focus. It would routinely stick pretty bad and I would have to really rock the wheel to get it to start. Then one day I couldn't get it to unstick. I had to have it towed in on a flat bed. My local Ford dealership had to replaced the ignition lock cylinder. This was several years ago, but if I remember correctly they towed it in and did the replacement for free. They said they pretty much expected them to fail at some point. I would call your local Ford dealer and see what they say.

Yes the best solution is change the ignition key cylinder. because the repairing can be lead you to some great trouble. I know repairing is lest expensive for some time and when you if after sometime you got the same problem then you have to again pay the amount of repairing and the sum of the both is more the the cost of a new one.

Was able to repair it for ~$80.00
Found that when the key won't turn, tap on the key with a socket while trying to turn it, and the tapping moved the tumblers allowing the key to turn. Then, you have to put a small coat hanger wire in the hole, find the "sweet" spot while turning the key a little to disengage the retaining tab, and wa-la, the key cylinder comes out easily.

Hope this helps someone else.:)
