2004 focus wagon issue

i bought a 2004 ford focus wagon with the 2.0 ztech have owned for about a month and now it wont do anything. i drove it almost all day got home parked it and a little while later went to run to the store and it wouldn't crank or do anything. i checked the clutch safety switch and it still engages you can here the click. the pats light still flashes every 2 seconds with the key in the ignition or not and there are dashes where the mileage should be. does anyone have any idea what could be the issue? TIA

You may not be familiar with Ford"s anti -theft system. They use coded keys for your vehicle and if you happen to try a key that is not correctly coded it will not allow the starter to operate. You should have a second key , try that key alone without any other keys on the ring. Let us know what you get.

only have one key. but luckily i figured it out today a couple of wires on a sensor had missing casing and were touching so it was freaking out the whole system. wrapped the wires in electrical tape until i can fix them properly and the car runs great now.
thank you for your reply though

If you can, get a second key made ASAP . if anything goes wrong with the only key you have, you will be stranded. A local locksmith equipped with the correct equip can do that for you. You need 2 coded keys then you can code as many as needed. Keys can lose their coding.
