2014 OEM brakes
 

Looking for information for the OEM brakes for a 2014 Focus Titanium and I can't find what I'm looking for. Does anyone know what the starting shoe thickness is for the rear as well as the front brake lining thickness? Trying to gauge how much more I can drive before I need to replace them.

Also, I've only ever replaced rotor/pad combos before, how difficult is it to drums and/or shoes?

most new non-servo style drum brakes for cars have about 4-5mm shoe lining when new. they are completely worn when the lining is the same or lower thickness than that of the metal shoe they are bonded to. if they are revitted to the shoes and not bonded, the min is 1.6mm above the revit.


the front pads probably are 10mm new and should be replaced at 2mm.


it definitely requires more skill to replace and set up drum brakes properly than disc. but they last much longer and require less maintenance. my 2006 Taurus is still on its original rear shoes and drums at 100 000miles. for anyone living in the rust belt; you want rear drum brakes. the only rear reason for rear disc is high performance vehicles or towing.
