Key Stuck In Ignition and now car can't shift.

Hi, I have a 2005 Ford Focus. Yesterday my key got stuck in the ignition, but I could get it out by hitting the gear shift towards the dash (this is an automatic transmission) Well I had to drive it somewhere and it got stuck again. I kept putting it in gear (while turned off, which was stupid I know) to get the key out. When I tried to drive the car later it wouldn't go into reverse, unless I put the gear indicator in between reverse and neutral. Also when I drove the car, it wouldn't change from 1st to 2bd to 3rd to 4th gear. Got to 40 MPH and it didn't change gears. It is the gear shift or transmission?

There are maximum chances of shifting mechanism getting damaged due to heating action. Check out the shifting rods and springs for any physical damage.
