loose sound when cornering

whats up guys...i have a 2001 focus wagon and i'm having trouble find much online about the suspension. here's the problem: when i corner i hear a loose sound coming from the front of the car, like it's losing traction and i don't know if it's a bad control arm, bad bushings, or bad shocks. tonight i was driving and i hit a speed bump and it sounded like it bottomed out at the top of the speed bump...which makes me think it's the shocks. is there a way to figure out if it's the shock? and whats a good brand of shock to get? the car is a 2001 wagon se with the zetec engine. thanks

Sounds like the shocks, or it may be struts. Don't know what is on that car. Go to the front and push down on it. If it seems keep bouncing after you push down and let go, it is that.

As far as brand, Monroes seem good for a basic replacement. What are you looking for? Basic suspension or high performance type?

Could be strut. and yes it is a strut. Also could be a broken coil spring I have seen that. You should have a shop look at it for diagnosis, most will do that for free anyhow.

on my 2000 focus, both coil springs broke within 6 months of eachother when the car was 2-3 years old, it was a known issue that was replaced for free at the dealer... i guess the lawsuits are less to pay then a recall...
