Smog pump delete on my 97 f250HD 7.5L gas 4X4
So I ordered some hedman headers for my truck and I'm going to delete the cat. But I noticed this pipe going from the cat, to the engine bay, to the smog pump. Is this something I can delete? Could anyone point me towards a delete kit? Or should I just reattach this pipe to my cat delete?

Welcome to the site..
Its part of the Thermactor Air injection. Basically, 'fresh air' injection from the smog pump. You can't plug the line or the smog pump will fail. If you don't reconnect it, you'll hear the pumps air flow. Sort of a buzzing/woosh sound. If your not smog required, removing the pump etc (although part of the main fead belt drive) and saving the parts may be a better bet. If just the pumps belt is removed/routing altered, condensation/corrosion generally will lock the pump up. I don't know of a smog air pump delete kit, but an belt idler could be installed in its place if the plan is to remove the pump.. |
Thank you for the information, I am not smog required so I will most likely remove the smog pump and replace it with a belt idler.

If you don't care about the pump,, you could gut the pump of its carbon blades making it not much more than an idler itself...

That sounds like the best route for me. Thank you
