04 freestar having some wierd issues
 

I have 4 codes come up that i havent seen before. B1288, U1099, U1021, and U1059. I have no idea what these are. I'm also chasing an overheating issue, thats what prompted the code check. IDK if they have anything to do with it but i dont know what these codes are. I'm going to check the computer and make sure it hasnt been getting water on it. I heard there was a tsb about it. If anyone can shed some light on the definition for these codes that would be appriciated

All U codes posted deal with a communication problem with the PCM like, invalid info from speed control,A/C clutch, Trans. There is possibly a broken wire in the communication network or a malfunctioning module in the network system.

Has any recent work been performed on the vehicle? There are numerous grounds on the Freestar and Ford uses the grounds for communications. Are all grounds clean and have good contact surfaces? The main ones to look at are the ones under the cover over the radiator support, one by the A/C dryer/receiver and another one to look at is the one behind the driver's side kick panel. That one caused some serious gremlins in my Freestar when it was a few months old (such as randomly starting by itself).

I'll check those grounds. One of the codes says something about trans shift range communication. I noticed when in drive it won't let the rpms past 4000 like it's still in park or neutral. It's funny because the ac still works and the speedo works. But the only info on the other 2 u codes says ac clutch and vss communication. I haven't tried the cruise control but the speedo uses the vss right?

Something to keep in mind, codes do not always indicate a defective part. It just provides the system that is malfunctioning. When you get a bunch of miscellaneous codes it could be caused by as Use Common Sense stated, Electrical gremlins. And that could include poor connections. An electrical diagram is sometimes necessary to see what components share that circuit and go from there. The B code suggests a body control module problem. It does not have to be the module itself. Communication codes (U codes) can be caused by something as simple as a blown fuse not sending power to a particular circuit. It might be a good idea to check all the fuses. Also , when the codes are erased all the monitors have to be run again to check the operation of the various systems. A scan tool will help to check many of the systems.

It must have been someone else's work on it that had these codes stored. I cleared them and they havent come back, only thing I got was a p0340 pending. One loose vacuum hose and a new cam posistion sensor and it runs great now. But I got a heat issue. I'll start a new thread to not confuse anyone
