'04 Freestar Horn Problems

I have a 2004 Freestar Minivan. I'm having a problem with the horn. When I depress any area of the horn on the steering wheel it doesn't work, I have to find the "spot" to make it work, and even at times that spot is intermittent.

I'm somewhat able to do easy work on my own. I would love for this to be an easy fix where I take off the cover of the wheel and see that maybe a connector is rusted/corroded or not attached. But to do that, I'll need some kind of guidance.

Maybe my problem isn't at the steering wheel?! Any and all help is MUCH appreciated. Thank you!!

A smart move to check first since you will be working around the air bag system.
It would be wise to remove the battery cables and wait 10-15 minutes for the air bag system to discharge itself, but you can try these checks first.
Sometimes the steering wheel will lose its ground and fail to energize the horn relay when you depress the horn pad, and the possibility of the contacts in the horn pad itself could be faulty and also the horn relay AND maybe even the horns themselves.
What you might try is to have someone depress the horn pad at the correct spot, and listen if you can hear the horn relay click. I forgot to tell you , stuff some rags in the horns so if they decide to blow when your checking ,you don't get a loud surprise.

James...Yes...please elaborate on fixing this thing yourself. My '93 has a '32' air bag code flashing, but the horn, cruise work just fine. Must be just one or two of the wires not connecting on mine.
