Default 2004 Freestar aftermarket stereo install question

Long story short, I just installed a double din into my 2004 freestar......everything works fine.....but just curious about some things

#1.....what was the 16 pin plug used for?.....3 wires go into it, but are not used with new stereo.....the factory stereo has both the 24 and 16 plug into it?

#2 I also got something to make the steering radio controls work......they might aswell put it in Chinese....i didn't even bother......can anyone explain on a 3rd grade level how i install the aftermarket thing for the steering controls.

Thanx

Do you have the factory DVD player? What factory radio did you have (Single CD or CD/Cassette combo)? The 16 pin plug was probably used for talking to the Factory DVD unit.

Just curious, Why did you change radios?

Was just wondering. Know what you mean with non MP3 disks. I also had the CD/Cassette player in my 2004 Freestar. I installed an OEM 6-Disk MP3 player from a 2005 Freestar back in 2006. It was a straight drop in and steering wheel controls talked with no problems. Still have the original player in a box in my garage...

Glad to her all is working OK...Sometime the newer vehicles don't like playing nice with aftermarket items.
