2004 Freestar PCM replacement
 

Hi all, I have a 2004 Freestar with a dead PCM. I have done a lot of research on the replacement and have a question. I have found a company that will ship a flashed PCM with new, programed, uncut keys ( I have them cut to my key when I get them ) that they claim is a plug and play system, no dealer programing necessary. My question is....Does this sound legit? The cost from the dealer for a new PCM, 2 keys, programing and labor is about 1000.00 the company I found is less then half that I supply the labor. Any answers are greatly appreciated.

What type of warranty is there in the "PLUG'n PLAY" unit? Does the company have any wiggle room on the warranty to get out of replacing the unit/keys if bad?

One thing that pop into my mind with this is the key reprogramming that's required when the PCM is replaced; it sticks in my mind somewhere that the IC needs a parameter reset to 'reset' the PATS ID, but I could be wrong.

Come to think of it...When the PCM was replaced in my 04 under warranty due to multiple MICRO-GREMLIMS and starting itself, I retained my original keys, but the new PCM came with a new key-less entry code card.

Hey guys, thanks for the replies. The unit comes with a 14 day money back guarantee and a 60 day replacement warranty. Everything I have read on this tells me that the PATS system has 3 components, 1. The PCM, 2. The keys, and 3. The transponder in the steering column. It also says that if only 1 of those items are replaced then there is no factory/locksmith programming required, you can do a procedure with the keys as long as you have 2 programmed keys to get your setup working. So.....as long as the company I hope to buy the computer from sends me the stuff programmed properly then it seems like I have nothing to worry about. The cost for the parts comes to 385.00 and again they assure me the system is plug and play. Any thoughts or glaring errors?

Hi all. Just wanted to give an update, I recieved the PCM and the keys today. I took the keys to Ace hardware to have them cut and when I asked the how much it would be they told me it was free, they only charge for the blanks ( that is the first bit of good news ). The second bit of good news is when I installed the PCM the van started right up ( now I am very happy ). Now for the problems 1. The trans will not shift out of what feels like first gear and the check engine light is on. I have not run the codes yet but does anyone have any ideas?
