2005 freestar loud A/C fan

When I run the A/C every 30 seconds or so what sounds like a fan comes on and makes an extremely loud noise for around 15-20 seconds before it kicks off for another minute or so and then it goes again. Is it normal for these vans to have loud A/C like that??

Thanks.

RE: 2005 freestar loud A/C fan

There are two electric fans on the radiator for our vans. The second will engage when A/c system tells it to cycle. You could have a probelm with the secondary fan. If you are not sure it is the fan you may want to take a look and listen to the A/C clutch as they also cycle quickly, particularly when the air temp is low and the A/C is not working as hard.

RE: 2005 freestar loud A/C fan

On my 2004 Freestar, both cooling fansrun on "LOW"mode when the A/C compressor is engaged. Whenmy van is running , but just setting with the A/C engaged as at a long traffic light and the outside temp is 85+, both fans will cycle on and off the "HIGH" mode as additional cooling is required.

While repairing my A/C just recently, both fans were in "HIGH" mode until I got enough R-134a into the system to start seeing liquid in the sight glass on my high pressure line. Once I was seeing almost total liquid, the fans reverted back to the "LOW" mode and normal operation.

You could be getting low on your A/C freon charge.
