Camshaft postion sensor

Hi, I have a 2005 Ford Freestar that has a new thing the past 2 times it rained hard or all day the camshaft position sensor starts to act up and the van just dies or runs horribly. I check the codes its a camshaft error position one. I replaced it and it ran perfect until it rained again 2 days ago. Is it possible that some wires get wet and its causing it to work improperly??? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!

What was the code you received?

Po340

P0304 Powertrain camshaft position sensor bank 1 or single sensor

If you cannot find or determine any real cause for the P0340 code , there have been instances when the problem was originating from the alternator.

If,,,,,,after clearing,, the code returns after a pretty regular time, you might try unplugging the alternator and do the same thing to see if the code sets again. If it does not return you know where the problem is originating and alternator replacement is the solution. I know you will want to confirm this before just replacing a possibly good alternator.

Please let us know how you make out with this, thanks..

Hi again. I will try looking into that option. If I wanted to replace wiring connector where does it originate from?????
Thank you

Please be a little more specific as to just which wiring connector.

If you mean the plug that goes onto the alt , how many wires do you have on that plug ?

If upon your examination you see or feel thee could be a problem with the connections , do what you are comfortable with as long as it is done right.

For some reason the output from the alt produces some voltage spikes and the code that responds is the P0340. If you are convinced you did all you could to determine the cam position sensor circuit is all good, you might clear the code and simply unplug the alt and see if the code returns, easy, cheap and ,,works !
