Crap...No oil pressure

Well, was on my way home from work yesterday and my oil light came on. No flickers, nothing, just immediately on solid. That never happened before. Pulled over into a parking lot and checked the oil level. Oil level full. Fired the engine back up and took off the fill plug. Great, no oil being pumped to the top end. Shut it down and had it carted to my Friends shop at the corner of my road. So, our guess is either the pump failed or the pick-up tube dropped off. The pump bolts to the side of the engine, but can't really tell how the system is designed by diagrams, but disassembly is in order. Should be interesting.

Side note: Apparently since the electrical system got a new part (alternator), the engine wants a new part. So...at about 184,000 miles, I guess it can have one...:)

Hope it's back on the road soon, a buck eighty four, maybe it just needs a time out :)

It's probably pissed at me because we decided to take the new F-150 on our road trip to FL, GA, SC, NC and VA instead of it. I still say that its mirrors are actually ears. Just can't say anything around the van...:)

I could do the job myself, but a lift makes it easier, so my friend gets to bust his knuckles and I get to bring the Band-Aids...:)

The first incision in the OR will be in the morning...:)

One nice thing about using AMSOIL...Even with no oil being pumped thru its system, the engine was still running nice and quiet.

Well, the Cam Synchronizer gear teeth are almost gone and 3 teeth are gone in one spot (red square). Replacement unit is ordered (warrantied). Just need to see what the cam gear looks like. Unit has 4 years and 55,000 miles on it. This was a "NEW" not reman'd CORDONE unit. Possible the gear wasn't heat treated properly and is soft. Just lovely...:)

Its really sweet. :)

good find. good thing you shut it down quickly.

actually, its pretty amazing how long today's engines can run without oil. Our shop ran a car smash raffle/bbq. 06 hhr...no oil or coolant....ran 5min wot before it shut down. deploying the airbags was the main attraction.

Well, no other damage except for the worn cam synchronizer gear, cam was just fine. Had to pull the front cover to reset the timing as the missing teeth caused the timing to slip. $325 and a new warranted cam synchronizer later and the buggy is back running. Idles like nothing never happened and runs thru the RPMs just fine and engine still pulls hard. Looks like its yearly oil/filter change with AMSOIL will be done a little sooner (cam synchronizer gear filings went somewhere).
