Random Shake-Mechanics baffled
 

Hi all,

I'm hoping someone here can provide some insight for me if they've had a similar problem. I've had my van to three different mechanics and NO ONE can find an issue and I know I'm not crazy. My '05 Ford Freestar has a strange, random shake only at highway speeds and only very randomly. It only lasts for seconds with the longest ever being like 10-15 seconds. It's quite unnerving when you're going 70 down the highway. It's had new tires and alignment, new brakes, new tire rods, new ball joints, and all three mechanics checked the CV shafts and rack and pinion and said everything up front is "tight" and, of course, they can't get it to do it when they take it out for a test drive. :( A family member suggested that maybe a wheel bearing is going out, but there is no noise, etc. We are supposed to be taking the van from Iowa to Galveston, TX in November and I want to get it right before then so I can save the cost of renting a vehicle. Please help if you have any suggestions!

A starting point would be...

Was any type of work performed on the vehicle prior to the issue manifesting itself? If so, what was it?

Is it the whole van that shakes, just the front, just the steering wheel or steering wheel followed by the front end?
