Thumbs up Freestar console removal

Thanks to All that post problems and solutions to this forum. Just used this console removal info to obtain the wife's credit card that fell behind the cup holder. Thanks again.

According to this post:
2004 Freestar heater core R&R How To - Ford Forums - Mustang Forum, Ford Trucks, Ford Focus and Ford Cars

a little less than halfway down, there is a photo of a cup holder removed without removing the whole console. The text says

"I found it easiest to remove the cup holder next. Pull out the cup holder and use a screw driver and push the clips in. This is where they are:"
[ the photo is here]
"You need a long screw driver to reach them."

Makes it sound pretty easy. I have not tried yet, but I will when it is not so cold out.

The tray will come out without removing the entire console! However you need to pull the cupholder as far out as it will come, using a screwdriver pry outward on the tabs above the slides. Mine sounded like I broke something when they finally released. I did take the entire console out this time but don't plan to again.
