Default Tighten roof rack on 2005 Freestar

The roof rack on my Freestar is loose due to hauling a kayak about 1300 miles. I cannot seem to remove the plastic end caps to access the bolts. The bolts (screws) have actually come completely out under the left front end cap. All parts seem to be plastic. Do I try to pry open the end cap? Please help.

I had the same problem. I ended up breaking off the plastic cover for the front part of the roof rack and discovered what lies underneath. One of those poorly engineered ideas from Ford. The plastic covers which are on the front, middle and back attachment points to the van have plastic dowels that slip into a sleave. Once these are installed I don't think they are meant to come out again without breaking them which is pretty poor. How on earth do they expect to service these without having to replace the plastic covers? another way to get a few bucks out of you I suppose. I was able to glue the cover back on after tightening the bolts underneath. If you can, try wiggling the cover back and forth while pulling towards the door. I was lucky and was able to pull the middle ones off that way. I'm sure you long since had your rack repaired but perhaps this will be usefull for the next guy.
