transmission issue
Noticed hesitation a few times going into overdrive on 2004 Freestar with 27k miles, but yesterday on hiway driving the light started blinking.
I have it at a shop and they are looking into it and going to drive it around some.
Any words of advise?

Being that you have 27,000 miles on the vehicle, and the fluid is 5 years old (breaks down/oxidizes from time, heat, stress and sludge affecting solinoid operation) I would drop the pan, replace the filter (it's a fiber filter, not a metal screen from times gone by) and clean the tranny pan of all the wear crud. Then I would have a tranny fluid replacement performed by the Dealer. NOT A FLUSH! Do not run any type of fluch chemicals thru the tranny, it's not needed. The tranny fluid replacement interval is every 30,000 miles. This is mainly due to the tranny fluid running HOT caused by the use of a RWD designed engine in a FWD configuration. The rear cylinders (#3 and 6) run hotter as the coolant flow is reveresed in the engine, thus exposing the tranny and fluid to an additional heat load than normal. This may most likely resolve your issue, but is not a fool-proof guaranty. I did a pan drop/filter replacement and fluid replacement at 30,000 miles (AMSOIL). Now a 73,000 miles, not a peep or bump out of my tranny. It still shifts up and down as smooth as the day I bought it.
