Pasing gear problem

I have a 2005 Ford Five Hundred, 6 Speed tranny, engine 3.0, 4 valves per piston with only 44,000 miles (first round).

I love this car, but one serious condition has developed when flooring the pedal to engage the Passing Gear, we all know that it should shift to a lower gear to "jump" forward and pass the car in front of you.

Well, instead it seems to jump to Low gear and then kicks and jumps and jerks and it seems it will tear the engine and transmission supports until I release the gas pedal and back to normal as long as I don't intent to floor it again.

Can anyone advise me on this awkward problem I will appreciate this tremendously

What happens if you ease up on the accelerator pedal part way instead of all the way up?

Hi Hanky thanks for your answer
Well If I go gently on the accelerator it shifts normal, as long as I don't gently go more until the passing gear is supposed to enter as show time begins again. It happens only when the passing gear enters and not since driving starts as all shifting is done normally and smothly, it's like the guy you are trying to pass accelerates too and you hve to go, not ramming the pedal to the floor but go smoth to the floor it does it all over again.

Let me tell you it seems that the car will come apart, its like if you are driving at say 40 MPH and you intentionally move the stick to low well we all know you are not supposed to do that as you know that if you do that, it will down shift very hard.
