I recently had the alternator and battery replaced in my 2015 ford fusion. Since the alternator was replaced the charging service light stays on and now the car idles hard and the headlights flicker while idling. Oh, while idling, the rpms jump as well.

Could it be the voltage connector or bad alternator installation? Any suggestions would be appreciate.

Was the repair done at a Ford Dealership or another shop?
If an aftermarket alt was installed there is a good possibility it has a problem.

 

I bought the alt at rockauto and had my mechanic put it in. It seems like it is overcharging the battery or something, like it's too powerrful, if that makes sense. (my auto knowledge is limited lol). I guess maybe this is what I get for not just taking it to the dealership the first time

 

With Fords, the alternator can be working alright as far as charging the battery, however, some rebuilders have trouble getting them right..

A lot of folks many times choose to go the cheaper route instead of getting an alt from Motorcraft or a dealership parts dept and they seem to come with problems . It is possible that something else could be going on and might need to be checked out further.
