Default 1965 ignition switch

I have a 1965 coupe that has been sitting for awhile, the back plastic parts on the back, have come apart from the front metal housing of the ignition switch. My problem now is I can not get the metal housing, key cylinder, and bezel, loose from the dash to work on them. I know that I am going to have to replace the switch, but how do I get the rest loose. I would appreciate any help anyone can offer.

Thanks,
Randy

Hey Randy what you got 6cyl, 8cyl,straight or auto, got the standard or deluxe(pony) interior? Just wandering. All that makes no difference in the switch.. To remove your switch you should have to first insert key. Easier with only one key, not a chain of keys or a big fob attached to it. Then turn the key to the ACC position. Take a very stiff wire, I used a heavy paperclip with one prong bent out straight, and push it into the small hole to push in a lockpin, and turn the cylinder counterclockwise, pull slighty outward to remove it. You have to remove the cylinder first before taking rest of it out. Then reach and press the back of the swich inward and turn counterclockwise 1/16 to 1-8 turn to remove bezel. spacers and switch. Take nut off back and remove wires, insulated plug. Its out. You can get a new switch and key set from one of the Mustang parts houses. Im no certified mechanic, but I have worked on several cars in the past. I currently have a 65 and 66 now. Had a 66 inline 6 but had a friend who wanted it so I sold to him so Im down to two. Hope this helps..SAMF
