87 5.0 auto/stick differences

Hey group, first post here.

Looking at an 87 5.0 for my 66. I have a t-5 for it already. I would prefer a stick motor butif find an auto motor, how much is needed to convert it to a manual. Just the flywheel or do I need a matching hormonic balancer to go with it.

Thanks, JR

Im no expert on mustangs or anything but one problem that usually comes into play as well as changing out fly wheels is that alot of times the crankshaft has to be changed also being that the pilot hole on the crankshaftfor a torque converter differ from the pilot hole for a manual transmission. Well at least that was a problem i had ran into with a oldsmobile engine i was rebuilding from the late 60's. as far as balanceing I would say there would be some rebalanceing needing done also if you do have to change out crankshafts as well, which im almost certain you will!! If you can find engine already set up for the manual trans i would recomend getting one of those cause this may turn into more then you want to fool with converting a engine set up for auto to a manual set up.

Well, I figured the most I would have to do is get the flywheel and hormonic balancer off a stick motor and swap it to an auto motor. I do have a late model flywheel laying around. I'll check it for balancing weight. Hoping the motor is internally balanced.
