engine identification help

Hi,

I inherited my fathers workshop full of project cars. Now before ya'll start saying "wow how cool" all of them need complete restorations and about half of them are in various states of disassembly. I have several engines disassembled, but luckly all the parts are in boxes labeled as engine A,B, C, ect. My question is how can I identify the exact engine type and year so I can put them with the correct car and I do wanna restore some of them. The two I'm looking at now are Ford engines, disassembles down to the block. In the valley were the lifters are one has "351 W F 10", two have"289", and one is still complete (minus the intake up, although I'm sure its around here somewhere), but much bigger than the 289 or 351. I know obviously one is a 289 and one is a 351, but Windsor or Cleveland? Where are the engine code to tell me exact type and year? Also the Ford heads are all placed in a cabinet for storage, but how can I identify which goes with which engine? Any help would be greatly appreciated. My dad was awesome, but very varied tastes and just too many projects. I have four Mustangs, a T-bird, a Surburban, a MG. a Fiat, two trucks (Dodge and Chevy), a Cadillac, and two VWs. All packed away over the last 40 years. Thanks again for any help....Keith
