Ford Mustang/Ford 500 radio 2006 & newer

Hello everyone. I have a 2006 Ford 500 limited AWD. The stock radio is the Ford a.m./FM 6 CD changer. The CD player has been taken out of the radio because it does not even function anymore. My question is I have driven some of the Ford Fusions up to 2014 that appear to have a very similar radio. What I’m wondering if anybody happens to know is if I was to find on eBay or elsewhere a Ford radio that is somewhat updated with possibly texting functions and or XM Satellite radio if this would be compatible with my car. Would I be able to simply plug and play? It would be nice to be able to play Pandora from my phone over my car radio or something comparable. If anybody has any knowledge of this please reply, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you in advance, Will

Make sure you get the full picture regarding some radios. In 2008 the radio was now one of the modules in the "Controller Area Network". May or may not affect any earlier yeas, don't know, but will definitely affect 2008 and later years.

Ford 500 radio

Thank you hanky! By the way, I posted this on the Mustang forum because I know the Mustang shares the same radio as I assume quite a few other Ford models. Just looking to try to update the radio in my old 06 Ford. I once had a 2012 Ford fusion company car that had the built-in XM radio and texting feature. That would be an ideal radio for my car. But I’m not sure if the connections would be correct. And if the XM would even work unless I had some other component that plugged into it. So confused! Ha! If anybody else has any ideas I would sure greatly appreciate any info!
