1995 Ranger 45 cyl Opinion - Before I Buy It!

Hi all. My neighbor is selling his 1995 Ranger regular cab XLT, 5 speed, 4cyl, 2wd with 133K miles on it. He will sell it to me for $500. I am looking at this as a cheap 3rd vehicle that (I am assuming) gets good gas mileage. He has had it for 10 of the past 11 years (bought it a year old). While he did not take super care of it mechanically it's fairly clean. He told me that he has changed the oil every 3k to 4k. However, it idles and starts pretty rough. I will also eventually need a new windshield since the existing one has a crack in it. The check engine light is on too. Since he bought a new F150 a few months ago, he has barely driven the Ranger. So my questions are:

1. Is it worth it for $500?
2. Since I am not very mechanically inclined, are these trucks (specifically with the 4cyl.) expensive to fix?
3. Is 133K too much mileage to buy this?

Any advice and insight woudl be great!

Thanks!

Dave

Whoops! I meant 4 cyl, not 45 cyl! Anyway, I just drove it. It drives fine. We went to Autozone to get the check engine code. The code is P1443 - Evaporative Emission COntrol System Control valve. Any ideas about that too?

Thanks!

$500 is not bad i think it is worth it.[hr]It is not that expensive to fix vs the average car.[hr]For a truck with 133k it's still a good deal.

DTC P1443 indicates an incorrect Evaporative System Purge Control Valve flow. This can be caused by a clogged, disconnected or broken vacuum line between the EVAP Canister Purge valve and the intake manifold as well as a bad EVAP Canister Purge valve itself..

Is the gas cap on correctly? If not this code may trigger this.

Already bought it. In fact, I changed the following:

PCV
Fuel Filter
IAC Valve
Cleaned TB

I will be cleaning the MAF tomorrow. Already a night and day difference! Now, if I can only get the A/C Blower issue resolved .....
