2024 Ranger is a Ford Failure
(...and so is Ford's customer service)

I recently purchased a brand new 2024 Ranger (78 mi), but it completely self-destructed in only 6 days (327 mi).

For no apparent reason, on my commute home, the "low oil pressure" indicator lit up, then the "check engine" light, then I heard a rattle in the engine. I stopped driving it and had it towed back to the dealership. "Catastrophic engine failure." Metal everywhere in the engine and oil filter.

Having lost complete faith in the reliability vehicle, I inquired into either a return or trade of the still-new Ranger, but neither the dealership nor Ford Corporate entered either option. The only solution offered was to completely replace the engine -- with no explanation as to why the first engine completely failed -- which took a month.

After numerous calls and written communication, no concern was shown for my inconvenience, loss of confidence in Ford, or loss of resale value of the brand new vehicle that completely died at no fault of my own. Ford would not even extend the warranty to demonstrate their confidence in the lemon and show goodwill to a returning customer.

I'm stuck with a truck that I cannot trust for anything, and Ford does not care. Why would I ever buy a Ford again? I will recommend that nobody else does. I wouldn't want my family, friends, or coworkers to experience what I have and be treated this way by a company to which they just committed tens of thousands of dollars.

Chances are they know quite well what caused the problem. There is nothing wrong with them replacing the engine at no cost to you.

Did you find out the cause yet?

Legally I'm not sure if they would be required to do any more,,,,,,,,,,,,but I sure would look for another dealership that is more considerate and appreciative of a new and good customer.
Individual dealerships are now usually run like individual businesses and if they want to please and keep a customer, which is good business, they try to work something out that is acceptable to both parties.

No, I haven't, and assume I never will. Ford told the dealership not to touch it; they probably wanted their people to look at it. The dealership sent the old engine back to Ford as soon as the replacement was dropped in.

To be fair, it's been fine since. Also, even though it took several months of arguing, Ford finally offered a complimentary extended service plan, so that at least helps with my loss of confidence.
