84 Ranger

I have an 84 2.8 liter 4x4. On semi cold and humid days (40 degrees and raining), it runs horrible. If I let it idle long enough, it will cloud up the neighborhood with black smoke. Most of the time it dies after about 5 minutes of idling. Once the thermostat opens, it runs fine within seconds. On days when it is to cold to be humid, it runs just fine. Any info you guys want to share would be welcome.

Thanx,
Kelly D.

P.S. This motor uses 2 thermostats, so there is absolutely no heat coming into the cab until the first one opens.

You may need to have a scanner put on it and have the coolant temp sensor checked. It may be reading way low and causing a very rich cold run (like having a choke to tight).

Im sure its related to your feedback carburator.

Trying to control a carbuator with a computer is impossible.

Rip it off and use a 2150 2bbl.....sooo much better.

later,
Dustin
