Default an 88 that dies when it wants to

i have an 88 ranger with the 2.3 that just dies anytime it wants to.i have changed the tank fuel pump, control module, and relays.still to no success.cranks over fine but the fuel pump does not engage.leave it sitting for a period of time and it fires right up like nothing is wrong with it.
anyone have any ideas?

does your truck have an emergency shut off valve some where? besides the fuel relay did you check for a burnt fuse!

i have checked the fuses, and it has the inertia switch that it not poped when the problem is present. i wonder if it could be the switch and if so how i would check that when the it happens periodically?ill assume check it when the pump will not engage?

i started meesing with the ranger the other day and got it running.shut the truck off and it would not start.i go and borrow some jack stands so i could put it up and drop the tank to check pump again!!.well, well,it starts right up again.played that game for a wile.finally got it to where it wouldnt die so i take it for a ride.6 miles up the road it DIES.sat there for an hour thinking in circles,i look over to the passenger floor and see the inertia switch wires and say the hell with it and cut them.wired it together and turned the key.it fired right up and havent had a problem since!
