Default Auto or Manual?

What is better for an 80's ranger? Automatic or Manual and why? I have heard that an auto tranny for an 80s ranger or explorer isnt the greatest. Can someone verify if that is true or not?

It really depends on what you like; the old A4LD (the auto) is a very well known quantity out there, and they're not hard to overhaul. The manuals lasted a good long time, provided you don't ride the clutch and the slave clyinder isn't leaking.

Up to you mate but I always prefer a manual. Don't no why, but I think it's because i can change gear when I want to get more revs when i go up a steep hill.

it all depends on your driving habits but usually a manual is easier on gas ! if your drive most of the time in heavy traffic then a automatic might be better !

it depends on where you drive the most, city or country ! in heavy traffic automatic is better because you don,t have to be changing gears all the time ! in the country where there are lots of hills then i say a manual is better ! a manual is easier on gas then a automatic !
