hard starting

HI every one!

I have a 99' Ranger, 4.0 that has a hard time starting when the outside temp is below 30 degrees and it sits for several hours. I have replaced the battery and cables, iac, iat, ect, fuel filter, cleaned the maf, changed the plugs and wires, and lower intake gaskets, had the coil tested. it will start and idle realy rough for 10 to 20 seconds and is fine after that. My mechanic tested the pressure for leak down and stuffand said it is fine, but he never had a hard time starting it. ( it was in a garage)Could the pressure regulator be causeing low pressure only when it is cold and it is haveing the problem? I cant hear the pump prime for 2 sec. should you beable to for sure with this model? I dont hear it when it is running either however. Some times when its really cold out it will start, sputter and some times die. on restart she fire right up.Once in a while it will start rough when it is warmer out ( low fifties) it seems like its always moist outdurring that instance. thanks to all.

Does it have a distributor cap? Not sure if that year is distribuless or not. If it does try changing the distriburator cap and take a look inside to see if it looks moist. My brother had a bronco and in NJ and a few times it had hard starting and it was due to some water getting in the cap and freezing on the metal tabs.

Sounds like a dirty IAC motor. Pull it off and see if the ports are dirty. If so, clean with choke cleaner and reinstall. See it that helps. https://www.fordforum.com/micons/m9.gif

thanks for the help! I have replaced the iac and the coil packs. I planning on checking the pressure when i get spare time. can anyone tell me what the pressure should be with KoEo and what it should be at KeEo.
thanks,

Have seena fewwhere the fuel actually causes hard start issues when cold. Might try changing fuel brand and retest.

Yeah, im still having the problem. I had the problem for over a year now since i bought the truck and no one seems to beable to figure it out.
I think it is a fuel pressure problem that i will test while the problem is occuring maybe this weekend if i have time. I have tried changing fuel brands and that didnt help. i'll post the pressure i see after I test to get some input. thanks
mike
