head removal 3.0
 

I need to remove head on 2001 3.0 to check for low compression.
Anyone have any hints or things to watch out for?

you dont need to remove the head for that. you can get a gauge that has a rubber hose on it and it threads into you head where the spark plugs go. Screw in the gauge and diconnect fuel injectors(just so it wont start in the process of checking pressure) and crank it for about 10 or 15 seconds. You should have at least 100 psi and it should stay at that reading. I did it to mine and had 130 psi in all cylinders except my number five had 30! turns out i had four cracks where the exhaust valve is. Replace my head with a 99 taurus head. truck never ran better. If you already checked for low compression and are wanting to remove the head to find out why, then you will probably find a cracked head like waldoranger stated.
