New oil pressure gauge indicating high reading

I have a 92' Ford Ranger. It had a remanufactured 2.9 V6 engine installed about a month ago with new radiator and complete engine kit. Today I had new instrument gauges fittings, and sending units installed to better monitor the new engine.

Oner of them is a mechanical oil pressure gauge. During driving, the gauge reads at about 48 lbs. When idling it reads about 16lbs. The mechanic said it should only read about 10 lbs after the oil has warmed up.

I notice there is a small oil leak at the instrument gauge line connection under the dashboard in passenger compartment. I see a few drops of oil on the carpet. I also checked the oil dipstick and the guy overfilled the oil.

I can't reach the mechanic over the 4th of July weekend. Is is ok to drive the truck on short trips? Am I still getting good oil circulation in the engine?

Thanks,
Dave

RE: New oil pressure gauge indicating high reading

Daveranger ,
I have a problem somewhat the same. Turns out my trans. fluid is transfering into the crankcase. Bad seal. This may be your problem also if you have a 4x4 ranger. I have a 94 with this problem.
