noisy front end

I have a squeaking noise coming from the front end on my 2005 Ford Ranger Edge and it seems to be located at the steering shaft box. Is there a history of this with the Rangers and what is the general solution for fixing?

Sometimes the U-joint at the bottom of the steering shaft gets dry and a little lubricant at the crosses gets rid of the squeak.

Sounds like the common ball joint(s) going dry and start screeching till they eventually give out.

Hi folks,
Loose or worn belts are a common cause of vehicle squealing. An old or failing alternator can make squealing sounds. If your car squeaks or squeals while turning the steering wheel, it's probably the steering system. Brakes squealing is their friendly way of telling you it's time to get them serviced.

Fords are notorious for ball joints going dry and squeeking. I think most can tell the difference between a belt squeel and a squeeky front end.
