Heard of people making their own lawn mowers run on propane, but I'd search the web and maybe you'll find a kit somewhere.

i know of a website that makes multiple propane kits but they say not to use them on streets plus if you have emissions testing it will not pass but the site is http://www.gotpropane.com/p4.html

Have you thought about CNG instead of propane? If so, then here is some info to get you started.

Starting in 2007, Ford made the Ranger pickup available with a natural gas option in BRAZIL. The vehicle uses a fifth generation system with sequential multi-point injection. Some changes in the 2.3 litre 16 valve engine were madeto improve performance on natural gas. The air flow to the cylinders has been increased and the valves have been changed to more durable types. With these modifications, Ford believes the engine life, working with natural gas becomes very similar to a gasoline engine. The natural gas kit is managed by an electronic gas module, working in conjunction with the original engine module. Starting is carried out with gasoline, regardless of the position of the manual fuel selection switch. The turnover to natural gas only occurs when the engine is at the ideal operating temperature. The conversion kit, yes kit takes about 5 days to install. So if you have a friend in Brazil, you may be able to get some part numbers for the kit.
