Default Rangerproblems

hello everyone, my name is cesar and i am from park slope brooklyn ny.
i currently own a 1998 ford ranger and i am having a problem with it. the battery went dead and when i gave it a boost it started right up but now its running funny and black smoke comes out from the exhaust and gets all over the floor and the truck starts chokin up nand doesnt wanna run faster then 20 mph anyone know what this could be

It's possible that your computer is having some issues. Or, if the symptoms are unrelated, you may have a bad catalytic convertor or clog in your exhaust. If you want to check the computer, you can bring it to a shop to so the diagnostics on it, or buy code checker yourself from a place like Checker or Auto Zone.

check the plugs could just be a coincedence

sounds like your fuel mixture is too rich, black smoke equals too rich of a fuel mixture. so like said earlier could be computer related, could be in your fuel system too.

Does your exhaust smell like raw gas?

I have heard jump starting computerized vehicles can cause computer problems, some makes are worse than others, check for fault codes.
